can we organize this poor group a little. these dang spam guys are starting
to tick off. can we gat a falconry sign, can we vote for it? lets start
every subject line with a character like a tilde i believe its called " ` "
so that the email can be organized alphabetically and will automatically be
shown on top if tilde is first character.
so in subject line try this...
subject; `falconry
subject; `greetings
subject; 'gyr falcon

etc....

next, it seems this is the most used falconry news platform? if not, please
share the news.

alt.falconry and alt.sports.falconry dont look too happy, so if we stick
with this one, we may gather falconers..

That's kind of an issue that your own ISP has to deal with. My own
ISP doesn't allow very much spam at all even in a little-used group as
a.s.f.

Pardon me for sounding rude but I see no reason why I should bother to
do this just to make your life easier. I have no problems with my
usenet, as I explained. Who do you use for reading usenet? Maybe you
should switch to one who is more proactive in spam prevention.

Not at all. It used to be, back before there were Yahoo groups and
the list servers, which means about pre-1998. These days most
falconry traffic is on a listserv called hawk_L, another called Raptor
Repertoire, and there are several Yahoo groups devoted to falconry.
Since usenet is a bit obscure for many people it has fallen severely
into disuse.

We agreed years ago to use alt.sport.falconry only. alt.falconry and
alt.sports.falconry have not been used in at least 3 years.

to your discredit.

Undies in a bundle? You wish. Let's just say I'm pretty amused to
see someone walk into a newsgroup, read a few messages, and suddenly
decide they know how to fix it up and make it all better.

Be my guest. Our thread has probably doubled the number of messages
in the past 3 months. You wanna talk to an empty room, go ahead.

I've been in this group for about 10 years and I am more or less in
charge of posting the FAQ and whatnots. The fact that you use Outlook
Express tells me how much clue you lack. (Among other things, like
top-posting, and the fact that you haven't bothered to look at the
posting history in this newsgroup.) I have seen this group go from
very active to hardly at all, and would personally prefer to see this
newsgroup gently die.

I view and post through Google Groups. It has severe disadvantages in
terms of immediate response, i.e. it has none. However, it suits my
purposes since I personally don't need immediate response. Plus it
has very little spam. Otherwise I go through my ISP, RCN. Your ISP,
Earthlink, is medium-poor at keeping spam out. RCN is medium-good.
Google is good.

Please do tell your reasons for saying that anyone who uses Outlook express
is clueless?
It has suited me just fine for years. To each his own, but I think its rude
to say that anyone who uses a certain piece of software is clueless.

This kind of post barely merits a response, but what the hell, I'll
bite:

Did my rudeness hurt your poor little feewings? A piece of software
that has nearly nothing in the way of user protection, no plonking and
can't drop threads is only used by people who don't have enough clue
to realize there's far better news readers out there and are probably
only using it because it came preinstalled on their computer.

'NancyLeePoopSack' says it all and says it true. AOL makes it even
more... poigniant.

As a professional who has installed and repaired every type of personal
computer since IBM launched their XTs in the 1980s and worked with every
version of MSDOS and Windows since then, I don't see any problem with using
Outlook Express as a news reader. Of course there are "better" packages that
will suit some people but there are also "better" operating systems than
Windows and "better" machines to run them on than a PC. So what? You use
what you have and if you're not happy with it, find a "better" alternative
at a time and cost that suits you. If you don't it doesn't mean you're
clueless. I'm sure that I could find fault with a lot of the software that
you use but that doesn't give me the right to insult you. I must admit, I
only tend use newsgroups when I need some expert advice and have found
Outlook Express more than adequate for me. (No, it wasn't pre-installed; I
build my own machines and install what I need to do the job it is intended
for.)

Ya and guys, since there is somebody else bere but the one chic who thinks
she is the administrator of this group, i will tell you the rest of you,
this is not for you Andrea, although im sure you will reply to it in one way
or the other to find fault in it.

I didnt and havent touched a falcon since that last incident 10 yrs ago, and
dont plan to until i get some experience with a falconer as i mentioned
before. I didnt know the screen perch was illegal, if somebody will point
me to some PROPER literature on falconry, ive read all i could find on it, A
Rage For Falcons, other books, cant remember which ones, all the research i
could do at MSAC college in California, and all i could come up with was
screen perch or block, and since i didnt have a block and astro turf, and
did have the screen and perch i decided on that one, so the screen perch
looked like a good idea to me as it IS what i READ, and WAS practiced at one
time in the art of falconry historically. So its not like i WASNT using
falconry techniques, just that i was having problem finding falconers that
would help, and updated literature to follow. hey whos world is this
anyway? its mine, yours, and the falcons, so lets be fair now.

And whats up with this secret society, dont be selfish i say, the world is
not yours alone. Lets publish some good falconry techniques so those that
are not willing to take the good route, WELL AT LEAST THE BIRDS WONT BE
BEING MISTREATED! By all means, i say DO NOT practice falconry without
taking apprenticeship for the the year or whatever is required, but hey, i
did. Dont think im the only one, im just trying to save the next bird.

Did i mention i am an Ornithologist? Well not a full degree, but been
through Zoology, Field Biology, Environmental Science, and another 4 yrs
general ed and other biology, voulenteer worked at the Aviary at the college
(hawk and falcon rescue), worked with the Ornithologist who showed me basic
bird veterinary skills like drawing blood and and making plates for the
microscope to check blood cell count, repairing broken wings, broken tails,
broken legs, and dealing with other ailments. The birds were in good hands,
the art failed me. If the literature was up to date, that bird wouldnt have
died. He may not have been able to hunt, however, lol, unless i did a good
job of studying that literature.

U say too young, is that why the calcium deficiency? God i feel bad.

i like microsoft products, i swear by windows 98se because i know how to fix
anything in a flash, and yes ive tried the rest, lunux, openshare, Mac,
WinXP, ill stick with win98SE as fully secured as can be expected, and
Outlook Express6, 128bit encryption usually, running a firewall, connecting
through a proxy on my other server, includig a firewall on that one thats
configured to the hilt. so im not really worried about security. Yes this
rubs you wrong all you Microsoft haters, but why do you hate microsoft
anyway, afterall they pioneered this stuff that ill bet most of you are
using right now.
