Hi my name is Leon and I am 13 years old I would like to become a
falconer. i Have a home in New york city and i Have one in Florida. I
am extremely interested in falconry I have studied the aspect of
falconry, birds behavior, training methods, and bird responses with
people. But there is one thing that I cant find. I cant seem to find a
decent falconer within the levels of general or master level. All the
people whom I have spoken to are all loons. They know absolutely
nothing about the art or the sport of falconry. And well... I read
your article in the alt.falconry group and well I believe that you are
an incredibly intelligent person and a great person whom I should
speak with before entering this sport. Please accept my humble
request... will you please help me further understand falconry. I love
the birds and the sport please help me.

Thanks

On one hand I would say it's a bit early for you to be so judgemental
of the people who may be teaching you in the future. On the other
hand, yes, falconers ARE nuts. They are obsessive, a bit masochistic
and tend to be perfectionists. Some are quite innovative. They love
the sport and will not let anything stand in the way of its practice.

No one knows to whom you are referring regards this great article.

I have no wish to discourage you in your quest, but as I said you
cannot become a licensed falconer until you're sixteen. Of course,
that doesn't stop anyone from getting himself around raptors and
falconry and learning. Feel free to ask questions in this forum or in
the many Yahoo groups devoted to falconry.

I finally looked it up and saw you're right, it is 14. My bad, and
thanks for the correction.
