Hello everyone,

Could anybody recommend to me either a book or video on falconry.
In particular showing the changing of anklets and tail bells etc, but also
all general aspects of falconry.
The bird in question is a Male Harris and my previous attempts have been
somewhat clumsy.
I feel a video would be better, so as I can physically see, rather than
reading about, but any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

John.

John, I could be (easily) wrong but I don't think there's a lot of
video out there on basic hawk maintenance. Your best bet is to get
yourself around another falconer who can show you these things.

As for changing anklets, your life will be considerably improved if
you get a grommet setting tool. If you're casting the bird to put the
anklets on, the grommet tool pretty much eliminates that. If your
bird is fussy about his feet, and I know those THHs can sometimes be,
just be patient and have a tidbit handy for when the stress is over,
(and an ale for yourself :) ...) It really is best to have two people,
one to hang onto the bird and the other to do the grommet setting.
They're different on the glove than they are on a perch. If you try
to do it yourself with the bird on the perch it can get kind of
klutzy.

Tail bells I know very little about other than what I've read in
Kimsey and Hodge.
